When Is It Time to Replace Your Windows?

Properly installed, well-performing windows do more than let light into your home — they help regulate indoor comfort, manage moisture, improve energy efficiency, and protect surrounding wall and trim components. Over time, every window system reaches a point where a full replacement should be considered.A properly installed, well-maintained roof does more than just keep rain out — it protects your home’s structure, supports energy efficiency, and gives you confidence during severe weather. Over time, every roofing system reaches a point where repair or full replacement should be considered.

Common signs that window repair or replacement may be needed include:

  • Drafts or noticeable air leakage around the window frame
  • Condensation or fogging between glass panes
  • Water intrusion, staining, or moisture damage around the window opening
  • Difficulty opening, closing, or locking windows properly
  • Rotting, soft, or deteriorated window frames or sills
  • Outdated single-pane or inefficient glass
  • Cracked glass, failing seals, or damaged hardware
  • Visible gaps between the window and surrounding trim or siding
  • Windows nearing or exceeding their typical service life

At RVA Gutters, we provide residential window inspections, replacements, and new-construction window installations throughout Central Virginia. We evaluate your existing windows, explain our findings in plain language, and recommend practical options based on your home, budget, and long-term goals. Every project is overseen for consistency and quality from start to finish.

When Is It Time to Repair Or Replace Your Roof?

A properly installed, well-maintained roof does more than just keep rain out — it protects your home’s structure, supports energy efficiency, and gives you confidence during severe weather. Over time, every roofing system reaches a point where repair or full replacement should be considered.

Common signs that a roof repair or roof replacement may be needed include:

  • Missing, lifted, or broken shingles caused by wind, hail, or aging
  • Interior leak signs such as attic moisture, damp insulation, or ceiling stains
  • Noticeable granule loss or “bald” shingles from weather exposure
  • Worn, curling, or brittle shingles near the end of their service life
  • Roof systems approaching or exceeding their typical lifespan (often 15–25 years depending on material and conditions)
  • Loose, rusted, or deteriorated flashing around chimneys, walls, and roof transitions
  • Cracked or failing pipe collars / vent boots around plumbing penetrations
  • Repeated small repairs in the same areas — often a sign the system is wearing out
  • Soft or spongy spots that may indicate underlying deck damage

When Is It Time to Replace Your Gutters?

A properly installed and well-maintained gutter system does more than collect rainwater — it protects your home’s foundation, siding, landscaping, and structural components from long-term water damage. Over time, gutters can wear out, become undersized, or fail due to improper installation or age.Common signs that gutter repair or replacement may be needed include:

  • Gutters overflowing during moderate or heavy rainfall
  • Sagging, pulling away, or improperly sloped gutter sections
  • Leaks at seams, corners, or end caps
  • Frequent clogs or standing water inside the gutter
  • Downspouts that discharge water too close to the foundation
  • Visible rust, corrosion, or deterioration
  • Water staining on siding, fascia, or soffit
  • Erosion or pooling water near the foundation
  • Older spike-and-ferrule gutter systems that no longer stay secure

At RVA Gutters, we provide seamless gutter inspections, repairs, and full gutter replacements throughout Central Virginia. We evaluate how water moves off your roof, explain any issues we find in plain language, and recommend practical solutions based on your home’s layout, drainage needs, and long-term protection goals. Every project is overseen for consistency and quality from start to finish.

Window System Specifications

Our Window Systems

Below is a list of our windowsystems. Each system has a specific benefit and advantage, ranging from cost-effectiveness to lifespan and structure. Have questions? Feel free to reach out for more information.

Replacement Window Installation

(Norandex • Harvey • Pella)

Replacement windows are designed to fit within the existing window opening and frame, making them an excellent option when the surrounding structure is in good condition. This approach minimizes disruption to siding and interior finishes while still providing improved energy efficiency, functionality, and appearance.

We install replacement windows from trusted manufacturers including Norandex, Harvey, and Pella, allowing homeowners to choose from a range of styles (double hung, picture, casement, etc.), glass options, and performance levels. This flexibility helps match the window system to your goals — whether that’s efficiency, ease of use, or aesthetic improvement.

Replacement windows are commonly selected when siding is staying in place and existing window frames remain structurally sound. When installed correctly, they offer a clean upgrade without the need for full exterior reconstruction.

Key Advantages of Replacement Windows

Replacement windows are often the most practical solution when existing openings are in good condition.

Minimal Disruption to Existing Siding & Trim
Because the window is installed within the existing frame, there is typically less impact on exterior finishes and interior walls.

Efficient Installation Process
Replacement installations are generally faster and more straightforward than full new-construction installs.

Improved Energy Efficiency
Modern replacement windows provide better insulation, tighter seals, and improved glass performance compared to older units.

Cost-Effective Window Upgrade
Replacement windows often provide a strong return on investment without the added cost of structural modifications.

When Replacement Windows Are Typically Recommended

  • When existing window frames and openings are in good condition

  • When siding is not being replaced

  • When homeowners want to minimize interior and exterior disruption

  • When upgrading efficiency and appearance without changing window size

New-Construction Window Installation

(Norandex • Harvey • Pella)

New-construction windows are designed to be installed directly to the home’s framing using an integrated nailing flange, making them the ideal option when siding is being replaced or when window openings are being rebuilt. This installation method allows the window to be fully integrated with modern flashing and moisture-management systems.

We install new-construction windows from trusted manufacturers including Norandex, Harvey, and Pella, giving homeowners flexibility in window style, performance options, and overall design. This allows us to match the window system to your goals — whether you’re prioritizing efficiency, appearance, long-term durability, or code compliance.

New-construction windows are commonly installed as part of full siding replacements, exterior renovations, or situations where existing window frames are deteriorated. Because the siding and trim are removed, this method provides the best opportunity to properly flash, seal, and integrate the window into the wall system.

Key Advantages of New-Construction Windows

New-construction windows are often considered the most comprehensive window installation method when exterior access is available.

Full Integration With the Wall System
The nailing flange allows the window to be properly tied into house wrap and flashing layers, helping manage water and air infiltration more effectively.

Ideal for Siding Replacement Projects
When siding is removed, new-construction windows allow the opening to be rebuilt correctly without relying on existing frames.

Greater Flexibility for Trim & Design Changes
This method allows adjustments to exterior trim details, sill conditions, and window sizing when needed.

Strong Long-Term Performance
When installed correctly, new-construction windows offer excellent durability, moisture protection, and long-term reliability.

When New-Construction Windows Are Typically Recommended

  • During full siding replacement projects

  • When existing window frames or sills are deteriorated

  • When changing exterior trim details or window sizes

  • When maximum moisture protection and integration are desired

What Is Included

RVA Gutters Window Replacement

Replacing your home’s windows is an important exterior upgrade, and we believe homeowners should know exactly what to expect before installation day. Our window replacement process follows a clear, step-by-step workflow designed to protect your home, ensure proper installation, and leave the property clean when the job is complete. While every home is a little different, most window replacement projects follow the process outlined below.

1.

Site Preparation & Protection

Before work begins, our crew prepares the work area both inside and outside the home. Protective coverings are placed as needed to help safeguard flooring, furnishings, landscaping, and nearby exterior surfaces. This preparation helps minimize disruption and makes cleanup more efficient

2.

Removal of Existing Windows

The existing windows are carefully removed, and the openings are prepared for the new units. During this stage, the surrounding framing and sill areas are inspected to ensure they are in suitable condition for installation.

3.

Window Installation & Air Sealing

New windows are installed using manufacturer-approved fastening methods, with careful attention to proper alignment, leveling, and secure fit. Shimming is used as needed to ensure smooth operation. The perimeter of the window is then air sealed to help reduce drafts and improve energy efficiency.

4.

Exterior Trim, Wrapping & Finish Work

Once the window is secured, exterior trim details are addressed. This may include installing new trim, metal wrapping the window frame for long-term protection, and sealing all exterior joints to create a clean, finished appearance and proper moisture control.

5.

Final Cleanup & Debris Removal

After installation is complete, all old windows, fasteners, and job-related debris are collected and removed from the property. The surrounding work areas are cleaned thoroughly to ensure your home and yard are left neat and safe.

Timing Note

Most window replacement projects are completed efficiently, with timelines depending on the number of windows and scope of work. Any project-specific details or access requirements are discussed in advance so there are no surprises.

Our Service Warranty

Our Window Installation Workmanship Warranty

At RVA Gutters, we stand behind the quality of our window installation work. Every window project we complete — including replacement and new-construction windows — includes a workmanship warranty that covers the installation for the service life of the installed windows, when properly maintained.

We warranty that your windows will be installed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and recognized industry best practices. Proper fastening methods, flashing integration, air sealing, and moisture-management details are followed to promote long-term performance, energy efficiency, and durability.

If an issue arises due to an installation-related defect during the warranty period, we will evaluate and correct the problem at no cost to you. To help prevent secondary damage, homeowners must notify us in writing as soon as a concern is discovered so we can respond promptly.

Our workmanship warranty does not cover:

  • Interior damage resulting from water intrusion or condensation

  • Damage caused by extreme weather events or acts of nature

  • Normal material movement or settling of the home

  • Damage from impact, misuse, or unauthorized alterations

  • Alterations or damage caused by other contractors or third parties

  • Failures related to window materials, glass, or hardware rather than installation workmanship

This workmanship warranty may be transferred one time to a subsequent homeowner. Written notice of the transfer must be provided within 60 days of the property sale.
